Chalo Dilli Maro Firangi: Erinpura Chavani brings to light a powerful yet largely forgotten chapter of India’s freedom struggle—the story of Erinpura Cantonment, one of the six major military bases established by the British in Rajasthan. Situated near the Jawai River between the present-day districts of Sirohi and Pali, Erinpura once stood at the crossroads of colonial military strategy and rising Indian resistance.
The book delves deeply into the 1857 soldiers’ rebellion at Erinpura, examining its causes, course, and consequences. It documents the formation of the Meena Battalion, its courageous uprising against British authority, and its eventual dissolution. Though the revolt was short-lived, it symbolized a growing unity among Indian soldiers and their determination to challenge colonial domination during what is now recognized as India’s First War of Independence.
Beyond 1857, the narrative traces the later journeys of these soldiers—many of whom went on to serve during World War II and later contributed to the security forces of independent India. Through meticulous research and historical interpretation, the author highlights how these men, and particularly members of the Meena community, played a vital yet underrepresented role in shaping India’s military and nationalist history.
Today, the ruins of Erinpura Cantonment stand as silent witnesses to courage, sacrifice, and resistance. This book seeks to revive that memory—to document, preserve, and pass on this legacy of bravery to future generations, ensuring that the voices of these forgotten heroes are finally heard.
