Parenting, The Changing Norms (Second Edition) by Sivaram Raghavan

Parenting: The Changing Norms revisits one of society’s most vital responsibilities in the context of a rapidly transforming world. This thoughtfully revised second edition reflects valuable reader feedback while addressing the growing influence of technology, artificial intelligence, changing lifestyles, and evolving family structures on modern parenting.

The book explores how professional pressures, digital dependence, modern aspirations, and reduced community interactions are gradually reshaping family relationships and affecting the quality of time parents spend with their children. In a world where screens often replace conversations and speed overshadows emotional connection, the author reminds readers of a timeless truth: children learn not from instructions alone, but through observation, behaviour, communication, and everyday experiences within the home.

Blending traditional wisdom with contemporary realities, the book encourages parents to become conscious role models through their values, emotional responses, language, and decision-making. Practical, reflective, and deeply relevant, Parenting: The Changing Norms serves as a meaningful guide for parents who aspire to raise emotionally balanced, responsible, and resilient children in today’s increasingly complex society.

About the Author Sivaram Raghavan has led a life shaped by simplicity, strong values, and meaningful experiences across both rural and urban environments. Growing up in a grounded and value-oriented household, he developed a reflective mindset and a deep interest in human behaviour, parenting, relationships, and child development.

A defining chapter of his life was his distinguished 35-year career with UNICEF (United Nations Children’s Fund), during which he travelled extensively through villages and cities, closely observing the lives, struggles, and aspirations of families and communities. These experiences gave him profound insight into the emotional and social realities shaping children and parents across diverse cultural backgrounds.

Driven by a desire to “give back to society,” he initiated Parenting par Charcha discussions and authored STOP, LOOK, GO – Parenting, The Changing Norms to bridge timeless parenting wisdom with the demands of modern life. Through his work and writing, he continues to inspire thoughtful parenting, emotional awareness, and value-based family relationships.

Ten Words of Lifeby Devan Unni

Ten Words of Life is a thoughtful and deeply engaging guide to navigating the complexities of modern living—crafted not as a conventional self-help book, but as a psychiatrist’s practical toolkit for life. Built around ten deceptively simple yet powerful words—Insight, Perspective, Reason, Meaning, Probability, Priority, Interest, Balance, Failure, and Contentment—the book explores how these ideas quietly shape the way we think, decide, and live.

Blending philosophy, neuroscience, and actionable reflection, each chapter unfolds through the conversations of three compelling characters—Ram, Shyam, and Meera—bringing abstract concepts into relatable, everyday contexts. The result is a book that doesn’t prescribe answers but instead equips readers with the tools to build their own inner compass—guiding them toward clarity, emotional balance, and a deeper sense of fulfilment.

Neither strictly philosophical nor traditionally self-help, Ten Words of Life stands as a bridge between thought and practice—a companion for anyone seeking to better understand themselves and the world around them.
