About the Book

Chandraprabha: The Iron Lady of Assam’ is an analytical biography of Padmashri Chandraprabha Saikiani (1901-1972), who was a leading freedom fighter, social reformer, educationist and a pioneer of women empowerment of Assam. The book has been written contextually instead of chronologically and therefore some repetition will be observed by the readers in the book. As there are many books on the Iron Lady of Assam in the public domain, the book has not been written as a typical biography on her. This book will showcase her capability and accomplishments as a freedom fighter, as a writer, as a poet and as a social worker despite her personal struggles throughout her life against many social norms. 

About the Author

The author, Hiranya Borah was born to a teachers’ family and his schooling up to
matriculation (1976) was in his parental village, Chatia, Assam. He graduated from Cotton College, Guwahati in 1981. During his college days, he was the editor of the college magazine ‘Cottonian’(1980) and he had published two Assamese novels. He took his master degree and M.Phil degree from Delhi University in 1983 and 1984 respectively. For few months in 1985, he was a lecturer in Cotton College before he had joined into the Government of India in the same year as an Indian Statistical Service (ISS) officer. During 1992-2003 he edited few guidebooks for the APSC aspirants. For more than a decade, he has been posted at New Delhi in a different capacity. In the last few years he has published more than 182 ebooks and has published 10 English books in print. Apart from writing books, he is also a motivational speaker for the youngsters.
