The Invisible Foe by Col MGS Nagi

 About the book

The book is fiction, based on some of the real-time anti-militant operations, conducted by the author in Kashmir Valley, during the period 1992-95. A time when local sentiments were on the boil, blatantly used by a rogue neighboring country and turning it into a proxy war. The era depicts heavy-armed confrontations between the radicals and the Indian Army on its own soil. It is a comprehensive portrayal of the war-like situation prevailing in the valley during the period, the audacity displayed by the army in taming the belligerents, as also the efforts made to win back the hearts and minds of the local population. It is a collation of few high dividend operations selected based on the degree of difficulty and the value addition in achieving the task with minimum collateral damages.

About the author

The author is a retired Colonel of the Indian army, who spent a large segment of his life in uniform, facing the menace of militancy. Originally commissioned into the Corps of Artillery, he has also been a part of Army Aviation for nearly 8 years, flying Alouette III helicopters. The book is a humble effort to reminisce three grueling years from 1992-95, spent in the Indian part of Kashmir and even beyond, combating an invisible enemy on his own soil. The script portrays some of the real-time, high dividend operations conducted by him in the valley as part of his crusade against armed radicals bolstered by the immediate neighboring country. The operations have been mildly dramatized to make it a fine and possibly immersive reading.
