The Invisible Enemy by Prabhat Chaturvedi

About the Book

What happens in the aftermath of the Covid-19 or Corona pandemic, what? We do not know, for how long the Novel Coronavirus is going to control our activities, our fears, and our lifestyle. Experts believe that the main reason behind the spread of such diseases, which can be transmitted to humans from animals, is deforestation and climate change. Coronaviruses, including those related to SARS-CoV-2, are present in many wild mammals in Asia. Corona is not the first, and most certainly, will not be the last pandemic that the world is going to face. In the Post -Covid Era all countries must be in routine preparedness for such influenza pandemics or other virus pandemics. All countries need to strengthen the healthcare systems and upgrade the reporting process and protocol to handle such crises.

One of the main reasons behind this pandemic is the greed of human beings. Dangerous viruses have spread, mainly, due to deforestation. It has resulted in environmental damage causing climate change and ultimately destroying the natural habitat of wildlife. Increasing demand for minerals, palm oil, beef, and wood products is the main reason for deforestation forcing a change in the natural habitat of animals.

We must cut the emission of greenhouse gases in the next twenty years, otherwise, the average global temperature will increase by more than 2 0 C, resulting in expanding deserts, disappearing ice caps, rising oceans, and even more extreme weather events. These changes, in turn, will disrupt agriculture production, inundate cities on the seashore, and make much of the world uninhabitable. Unfortunately, most governments are ignoring the threat. If we learn our lessons in the wake of COVID-19 and other pandemics and about the consequences of inaction, we shall be more prepared to save lives and future generations.
