Iconic Bridges of Indian Railways by Dr. Yatindra Pal Singh


 About the author 

Dr. Yatindra Pal Singh,ndc, FIE, FIMA, FIGS, FIPWE  & FIIBE, born in January 1957, in Bulandshahr district of Uttar Pradesh, India retired from the ‘Indian Railway Service of Engineers’ (IRSE) as Additional General Manager of North Central Railway in December 2016. He also worked as the Principal Chief Engineer of North Western Railway and Vice-Chairman, Rail Land Development Authority. He is both a civil engineer and a manager by education and practice. He completed his B.Tech. (Hons) with Chancellor’s Gold Medal from G.B. Pant University, Pantnagar,  M.E. from University of Roorkee and PG Diploma in Management from MDI, Gurgaon. Later on, he completed his M.S. in Infrastructure Planning from University of Stuttgart, Germany and Ph.D. in Management from AMU, Aligarh. He also graduated from the National Defence College, New Delhi and obtained   M.Phil. from University of Madras.

He has travelled widely throughout India and Abroad. He is an avid photographer. His first book, Clock Towers of India, was published by BlueRose Publishers in 2021.

About the book 

Bridges are inseparable part of Indian Railways. They span raging rivers and deep gorges. Among the innumerable railway bridges, many of them are iconic in one or the other aspect. The book contains historical and technical information about 34 iconic bridges of Indian Railways. These selected bridges are located all over India. The book is of equal interest to the engineers, designers, railwaymen and tourists as they will find in it various details from the anecdotes connected with these bridges to the information about their substructure and superstructure. The photographs taken by the author make the reading much more interesting. This is perhaps for the first time that such information is being made available which is expected to encourage the curiosity of the reader about the heritage and greatness of Indian Railways.
