"Passion Fruits: A Bundle Of Short Fiction" By Nilesh Chogle

“In the era of fast paced city life, it is important to keep the magic of storytelling to rejuvenate the mind, body and the soul.”

It was his grandmother and later his parents, who as a child gave an impetus to his young mind with seeds of stories that Nilesh Chogle credits for his present day craft. ‘Hours went by, during those simple days in Mumbai’, he says ‘and I always wanted newer and more stories listening from them’. Some of the stories were cooked-up by them, he now reminisces, particularly by his maternal grandmother. And why would she do that? In his own words ‘just to make the children in the large family eat to their heart’s content’. The large family comprised of his maternal side elderly father figures; grandfathers, grandmothers, uncles, aunts, and all those children who were born, after the uncles and aunts had got married. Those were the simple days in Girgaum, in the great city of Bombay (then, as it was called, before it was rechristened with a new name, Mumbai). These were the years when his perceptions and perspective powers, which were still hidden, and so were his views about life -- foggy and not mature enough. In an uncultivated mind, his imagination and perceptions got subconsciously and unwittingly cultivated to later learn the craft of writing and the ability to read more.

Little made one wonder then, that an author who had written two novels would have gained about creative writings in a novel way, from his exposure while contributing fictional stories at a Cloud Sourcing Short Stories Contest in 2015. Having not won a single entry in the winning teams of the contest, he did not lose hope, but decided to work on becoming a better writer. From the knowledge and experience gathered from penning these short stories for the contest, he created his own platform of short stories by composing these stories with improvisations and moderation, thereby getting his third book published, a novella of short stories entitled “Passion Fruits : A Bundle of Short Fiction”. Passion fruits would interest those who want to read contemplative writings around human emotions. As human beings, we go through various stages in our development. Human existence is a product drawn out of our own individual perceptions, through our acquired powers of imagination and in turn, the actualization of our visions and impressions all along in the cycle of life. All the stories in the novella are interwoven with aspects of life and experience of strong emotions and passions. Faith, suspicion, deception, difference, love, acceptance and revelation - these are the subtle aspects around which the author has crafted his stories.
